Mumbai – Lonavala – Alibaug Weekend Getaways
A Quick Escape into the Green, the Breeze, and the Beaches
Where the City Slows and the Soul Breathes 🌄🌊

Living in Mumbai is like being inside a poem that never pauses—fast-paced, crowded, vibrant. But even the most passionate Mumbaikar craves a break. That’s when the call of the Sahyadris and the Arabian Sea becomes impossible to ignore.
My Mumbai – Lonavala – Alibaug Weekend Getaways journey was born out of this craving—to touch the mist of the Western Ghats and feel the sun on a quiet beach. In just three days, I traversed mountain viewpoints, colonial forts, village bakeries, and seaside shacks.
This was not just a trip. It was a weekend well-lived.

Day 1: Lonavala – Misty Mornings and Chikki Trails ☁️🌆
Arrival and Monsoon Vibes
Driving into Lonavala, the air thickened with mist and the scent of eucalyptus. It felt like the city had been replaced by a watercolor painting.
Attractions to Explore:
- Tiger’s Leap Viewpoint: Valley views and fog that swallows everything except the sound of your breath
- Bhushi Dam: A favorite splash zone, especially in monsoon
- Karla & Bhaja Caves: Rock-cut Buddhist monasteries with echoes of ancient chants
- Rajmachi Fort: Trek-worthy for sunset lovers and history buffs
Local Delights to Taste:
- Hot corn bhutta with lime and masala
- Maganlal Chikki (original peanut brittle stall since 1900s)
- Misal pav, vada pav, and warm kharwas from local shops
Evening at a Homestay:
We stayed at a hillside bungalow with vintage furniture, surrounded by rain-soaked trees and fogged-up windows. Dinner was homemade pithla-bhakri served with jaggery and ghee.
Day 2: Alibaug – Sun, Sand, and Sea Breeze 🌿🌊
Morning Drive Through Ghats
The route from Lonavala to Alibaug was full of quiet villages, mango orchards, and roadside stalls selling kokum juice and papads. We stopped at Pen, a town known for its Ganpati idol sculptors.
Reaching Alibaug
As we reached the coast, the aroma changed—from earth to ocean.
Places to Visit:
- Alibaug Beach: Horse rides, coconut vendors, and the calm sea
- Kolaba Fort: Walk across the beach during low tide to this 17th-century sea fort
- Varsoli Beach: Quieter and cleaner, ideal for reading or meditating
- Kihim & Awas: For luxury villas and birdwatching
Food to Savor:
- Konkani thali with solkadhi, fried surmai, and rice bhakri
